30 minutes in Downtown Fredericksburg

I had a brief window to run downtown this evening and take some pictures.  I gave myself a self assignment to get mostly people shots.  Armed only with a 70-200 lens  - below are some of my subjects.  As always, feel free to leave any comments.

Enjoy

Have a good Wednesday.

Thermometer Rising

My favorite time of year is definitely upon us.   Not so much from a photography perspective but simply from a temperature perspective.  Bring on some serious warmth.

Here are a few of my images that always make me think of Summer.

Class of 2022

Today was Joshua's turn for a graduation.  Well, it was the Kindergarten Recognition Ceremony to be more accurate.  We are very proud of him.

Part of the event was for the students to walk across the stage and get their diploma.  Each child did a great job.  When Josh was called he did this weird "moonwalk thing" that gave everyone a good laugh.  Leave it to Josh to liven up the show.

After the event there was a quick get together in his classroom for the students, parents and teachers.  Josh wanted to take some pictures of his own, so I handed him the G11 and off he went.  Here are a few samples of his work.   These are some of his friends that helped make for a wonderful year.

Where is this ?

Let's play a game.  It is very easy - all you have to do is tell me where this photograph was taken?  Try to be more specific than just a city.  Leave a comment with your guess and I will reveal in the next couple days.  Sorry no prizes other than my appreciation for your participation and for your time stopping by the blog.

World Wide Photo Walk date announced

3rd Annual Scott Kelby Photo Walk

This year’s annual photo walk will be on July 24, 2010.  It gets bigger and bigger each year with more cities and participants.  There should be plenty of opportunities for local photographers, hobbyist and others to find a walk near them and join the fun.

Go here to search for a location near you.  New cities become available everyday so check back often .  You can even sign up to become a walk leader and make it happen for your neck of the woods.  You will meet some great people and have a lot of fun.

Here are a few images from a previous World Wide Photo Walk in Fredericksburg.

Hope to see you there.

get against the glass

Ever take pictures of something behind glass?  Maybe at a museum, an aquarium or even on an airplane.  You will almost certainly get a reflection of you or something else in your image - and if you use a flash it will be even worse.

Simple solution is to put your lens right against the glass barrier itself.  This will shield out the stray light/reflection and give yourself the best possible chance for a decent shot.  If you have a lends hood, you will most likely have to take that off too depending on its shape.  Be careful and take your time and your lens will be perfectly fine.

This tip is pretty obvious but wanted to share in case you have never tried it.

Here is one I took at Dulles Int’l Airport from the comfort of the United lounge.  You would never know there was 2 inches or more of glass between me and this scene.

Grayscale

Howdy gang,

Kind of in a grayscale mood this evening and was going through my library of images and felt like posting these. No message or sermon on the art of black & white photography, just sharing some images that I found interesting.

Maymont

Had a nice trip today to Maymont Park in Richmond - 100 acres filled with exhibits, beautiful gardens and wildlife.  Carried a full backpack throughout the hike and I am pretty tired.  If you go, wear comfortable shoes and go on a day it isn't too hot.

Here are a few images from my trip - click on to enlarge.

Another graduation

Megan is getting ready to graduate high school.  I can't believe how fast the time went.  It was that way with Nicki, too.  Our parents always told us they grow up so fast and they were certainly right.  I am sure some years from now I will be saying the same thing to Nicki, Megan and Josh about my future grandchildren.

A big congratulations to Megan, you turned into a beautiful young lady.

We are proud of you.
